Aren’t the insides of the roof of Korean palaces gorgeous? As seen with the intricate design and splash of colours, care and importance is given to the interior as much as the exterior.

Watching Sungkyunkwan Scandal makes me feel like I am peeking, much like this picture! Taken on a late summer’s day at Gyeongbokgung, doesn’t this pique your curiosity as to what is behind the door…?

In sharp focus in the distance is Hyangwonjeong Pavilion, found within Gyeongbokgung Palace. Hyangwonjeong is actually built on an artificial island of a lake and one has to cross a bridge from the palace grounds to reach there. Sadly, entrance is not allowed into Hyangwonjeong. The name of this pavilion sounds really pretty and lyrical in Korean, but is loosely translated to a very unsexy-sounding “Pavilion of Far-Reaching Fragance”.
